I designed graphics that function as “landmarks” throughout the schools, helping to guide, educate, and inspire students, staff, and visitors as they navigate the halls. The designs are intended to reinforce the values of the academies, using branded colors to create visual experiences that enrich the imaginations and education of the students. Since each academy floor serves 3-4 grade levels, themes have been chosen that align with the student ages and grades represented within each academy. Words of Inspiration is the theme for the Middle Academy. Using images designed to be relatable to middle school students, the wall graphics in the Middle Academy showcase inspirational quotes, motivational words, and historical figures. The expanded library now includes a reconfigured front circulation desk, a fireside reading lounge, enhanced adult and young adult study zones, and an improved children’s area. As the Environmental Graphic Designer, I developed three distinct interior environmental graphic concepts tailored to the library’s key zones: the Lobby, the Teens Area, and the Children’s Area. The client requested that the graphics reflect the library’s natural Appalachian Mountain surroundings, grounding the designs in the character and landscape of the region. Each concept explored a unique visual identity that balanced nature-inspired storytelling with age-appropriate aesthetics and spatial function. While only the Lobby concept advanced into production and installation, the Teens and Children’s Area concepts demonstrate alternative visual directions that supported the overall design vision for the renovated library. This conceptual exploration examined the library’s circulation patterns, simplified destination naming, and proposed a cohesive visual hierarchy using bright secondary brand colors, branded typography, and cost-effective materials such as paint and vinyl. In addition to the wayfinding system, the study also included an environmental graphic concept featuring a scrapbook-style collage that celebrated the University’s history, designed to bring character, storytelling, and a sense of place into the library environment.
